Document Management
One exception to our all-in-one standard is document management (DMS). Proficient DMS applications are highly developed and specialized. There is no practice manager on the market today that can compete with their native document management module against these dedicated programs.
Document Management has and is a significant challenge for law firms. The first products became available in the 1980’s. Most were designed for mid to large-sized law firms. Word Perfect Corporation developed a document management product that was spun off as Soft Solutions. This was one of the first DMS (document management system) that became available for solo and small firms. As a result of Word Perfect Corporation selling their product line to Novell who then sold the Word Perfect group of applications to Corel, Soft Solutions was not included and disappeared.
DMS systems began to appear in the 1990’s. Most were intended for medium to large firms. Later on a number of additional DMS products hit the market, some were ideal for small to mid-sized firms.
LawTech Consultants support and market two products. The first, Worldox is geared towards the small or mid-sized firms. NetDocuments is highly adaptable and can be used by any sized firms.
