PCLaw is one of the leading time and billing/accounting applications used by lawyers and law firms. The application was first published in 1982 in Canada and is now widely used in the United States and Canada. It was purchased by Lexis/Nexis in 2006.
PCLaw’s development of the integration link with Amicus Attorney resulted in the two applications being used together as the most popular combination of case management and accounting applications in law firms. The link maintained synchronization between clients and matters in both applications. Time entries created in Amicus Attorney posted to PCLaw, where billing and accounting functions were performed.
On May 8, 2019, LexisNexis announced the creation of a joint venture, PCLaw | Time Matters. PCLaw | Time Matters would take over the sales and technical support responsibilities while LexisNexis still maintained ownership of the application and its code.
Firms should have reliable financial records to help them generate reports and determine what types of cases and activities are the most profitable. Rules for trust accounting, in particular, must be followed stringently to protect client funds and keep the firm free of consequences for violating regulations. PCLaw followed these standards from its inception to the present.
